Suzhou Lerong Semiconductor Co., Ltd. acquired more than 10,000 patents from South Korea’s LG Innotek (LGIT) worldwide. The Jinshang firm’s team led and completed the patent transfer project, and undertook the subsequent agency and operation of the patent transfer. This transfer project is the largest patent M&A case in Chinese history and the second largest patent M&A case in world history. The patents of this transfer project are all patents in the semiconductor field.
The transfer project started in April 2021. According to the patent list provided in the assignment contract between Le琻 and LGIT, the Jinshang team carried out a coordinated combing, classified according to different countries, excluded legally non-transferable cases, and determined the effective cases in the list. After obtaining the accurate list, the Jinshang team conducted several rounds of meetings and discussions with its partner offices in Europe, America, Japan, Korea and other countries to determine the transfer plan and implementation details for each country or region. After determining the transfer plan, the Jinshang team held several rounds of talks with LG. First, determine the list of pending transfers and the transfer contracts of each country or region, and negotiate the handling of patent packages in the transitional phase to avoid overdue invalidation of patents due to transfer; secondly, in response to more than 1,000 unauthorized cases under review, The pending status of each patent is different. The Jinshang team sorted out each case and formulated a transition plan; finally, it fully communicated with the right transfer parties and the original LGIT agency to ensure the smooth transfer of the acquisition case . As of the end of July, the transfer of patents in various countries or regions has basically been completed, and the patents under review have also been transferred to Jinshang Firm for reply and management.
The huge number of patents involved in this patent transfer project and the number of global countries or regions involved are the first in domestic history.
